Homestead — Year-Round Family Home

A full-sized 48V split-phase system for year-round family living. Fifteen LONGi all-black bifacial panels, a large bank of Rolls S2-L16 2V flooded cells, dual Victron MultiPlus-II 5kVA inverters in split-phase, and two SmartSolar MPPT 250 controllers.

The Homestead Lead-Acid package is a serious, year-round off-grid system sized for a 2–3 bedroom Canadian home consuming 15–20 kWh per day. Fifteen LONGi LR8-54HGBB-505M all-black 505W N-type TopCon bifacial panels — each Canadian-market certified — feed two Victron SmartSolar MPPT 250/85 VE.Can charge controllers, which charge a bank of 24 Rolls S2-L16 2V 1450Ah flooded cells wired in series to form a 48V 1450Ah bank delivering approximately 21 kWh of usable storage at 60% DoD. The 2V flooded cell format offers the best cost-per-kWh and longest cycle life of any lead-acid chemistry — the preferred choice for serious off-grid homesteaders. Two Victron MultiPlus-II 48/5000 inverter-chargers are stacked in split-phase configuration to deliver full 120/240V power across all Canadian loads including submersible well pumps, electric dryers, and heavy appliances. The Victron Cerbo GX with GX Touch 50 display provides real-time system monitoring. This system supports a full household: fridge, chest freezer, washer, well pump, lighting, and all device charging. Both MultiPlus-II units accept generator input for fast battery recharging during winter weeks with minimal solar. Quarterly battery maintenance (watering and equalization) is required.
